19th Century Antique French Foxed Mirror
19th Century French Gilt Foxed Mirror
An authentic antique French mirror, likely from the Louis Philippe era (circa 1830-1870), prized for its elegant simplicity and timeless appeal.
The frame is crafted from wood and gesso. The beautifully distressed finish reveals hints of the traditional red base layer (bole) underneath, a desirable characteristic of true age and quality craftsmanship.
The mirror features its original, thick mercury glass plate, a rare find as this production method ceased after around 1840. The glass exhibits charming signs of age, including natural foxing which enhances its antique character and authenticity.
In good antique condition, with a beautiful aged patina consistent with a piece of this era. Minor imperfections to the frame and glass add character and history, without compromising its overall structural integrity.
